About Sweet Pea Bakery

Sweet Pea Bakery started as a hobby, baking for just my friends and family for their special occasions. I would make their birthday cakes or a pan of brownies for a family holiday. As I started to make more fun things for my family members, people began to reach out to me asking me to make their birthday and other celebration cakes. I fell in love with creating custom baked goods for people and getting to be part of their special days, all while baking at home. The bakery space became available and it was too good to pass up! I put a lot of work into fixing up the space- and old liquor store that dawned black trim and maroon walls- and creating the cozy bakery space that you see today!

The bakery name came from my dog, Shy, a Bernese mountain dog who I absolutely adore. Her nickname is Sweet Pea and I thought that was a wonderful name for a bakery as well. As a tribute to our name and her, I decided to create dog treats as well so there is something for you and your furry friend here! These dog treats were created by my aunt, who has a PhD in animal nutrition- to make sure your pup is getting exactly what is needs.

Sweet Pea Bakery is Ligonier's newest bakery that is women owned and operated! Located in the heart of the small Laurel Highlands town, SPB specializes in custom cookies, cakes, and cupcakes and is open during the week for even more baked goods! The bakery includes cookies, cupcakes, scones, cheesecakes, brownies, lemon bars, tiramisu, and more! We also have much more to look at including homemade jams & jellies, homemade dog treats, DIY vanilla bean extract, bakery scented candles, and SPB merch. Everything is handmade, in small batches, right here in store by 1 (or 2) bakers in our tiny kitchen. With so much to see, you don't want to miss the chance to come check out our little place.

We are located inside the Thistledown Inn, a historic mansion built by John Seger. It still has original stained glass windows, a swimming pool in the basement, and beautiful woodwork dating back to the early 1900s when this home was built. The home was sold to the Sisters of Mercy, who turned it into a hospital which had an emergency section, operating room, and even a labor & delivery department! The bakery is actually located in the old operating room. Many people come into the store and tell me that they were born here or had surgery here. Eventually it became doctors offices and then was sold to the current owners and made into an Inn.

Owner & Baker

I am the owner and baker behind Sweet Pea Bakery. I grew up in Ligonier and graduated from Ligonier Valley High School. I then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, which I still very much have a strong interest in, and I also got my real estate salespersons license. I finally decided to follow my passion and open a bakery where I grew up when I was 23. I have loved baking since I was very little, my mom always said I was in the kitchen with her as early as I could pull a stool up to the counter to help her. One of my family's favorite pastimes was making chocolate chip cookies together- still my favorite cookie. Since then, my love for baking and decorating has grown, and I have come to love things that I didn't even know how to make before! I especially love doing custom cakes and cookies as I adore being able to be creative with decorating and putting my own touch on things. I feel incredibly honored to be part of my customer's special days- birthdays, weddings, retirements, baby showers, and everything in between! I am so thankful for everybody who supports me and I wouldn't be able to do this without all of my customers and family who have helped me every step of the way.
